Description

Dark, hazy, and mysterious, the Martin DSS-16E Black Smoke is a captivating instrument compelling you to gaze in deeper. This cool, shady sloped-shoulder dreadnought pairs some classic Martin design tenets with lesser-seen shapes, sounds, and styles for an enticingly deep acoustic.

In their refreshed 16 Series, Martin treats a number of its classic instruments to fresh coats of paint – both literally and figuratively. New, musical approaches permeate through the series inside and out. Everything here with this 16 Series DSS starts with a sloped-shoulder dreadnought body brought together from spruce and mahogany. Throwing it back to some of the dreadnoughts favored by the singer-songwriters of the 1960s, this sloped-shoulder frame presents a sleek, smooth, and comfortable shape to get up-close-and-personal with. This sloped dreadnought is treated to a gloss top and satin back and side finish with a hazy Black Smoke top color. Within, forward-shifted scalloped spruce braces enhance sustain and bass response across the guitar's 24.9" scale length.

Here, this DSS-16E welcomes a select hardwood neck in a Modified Low Oval profile with a High Performance taper. This smooth, sleek, modern profile enables quick trips along the neck's length with a satin finish of its own. An ebony fingerboard lays out and presents twenty frets with 1955 Style 18 Mother of Pearl inlays for a seamless feel on the fingers.

Backing up this whole musical excursion, this DSS-16E features a number of stable hardware specifications. At the base of its scale, an ebony bridge in a Modern Straightline shape lands with a drop-in TUSQ saddle. Toward the other end, a bone nut and nickel open gear tuning machines ground strings stably for smooth stringing. Taking the stage, this dreadnought comes to life with onboard L.R. Baggs Element electronics for projecting sweet tones throughout a room while an included Martin soft shell case keeps things safe and secure on the road.

A sloped-shoulder special so sleek, this DSS-16E gives you something to do in the shadows.
