Dunlop is back again to prove they know wah-t's up when it comes to wahs. Originally released in 1994, the BB535 Cry Baby Wah was the first commercially modded wah effect on the market, and Dunlop has brought it back—accurately recreated for the modern guitarist.

Let's set the record straight: the BB535 debuted in 1994, but this specific rerelease models the 1999 production of the pedal, and for good reason. First off, this isn't simply a "wah plus". The BB535 starts at the root of wah tone by adding a high-impedance input buffer, a change that has been ported over to most models since the 535's inception, but proves that Dunlop has always cared about tone retention, maintaining highs and lows that ultimately would've been lost in previous models. Next, Dunlop contacted the manufacturer of the inductors used in the original BB535 and asked them to start making the component again—they said yes! This addition articulates a singular vocal tone that was, and now is, unique to this model. On top of that, and this is where the production year differences matter, the frequency selector found on the right side of the pedal engages six different voicing modes, an improvement from the '94 model which was limited to four options. These two extra options open the effect up to more than just guitar-wah, giving bassists alike the tools to change their wah effect from sharp and hammering bite to full, bellowing growls.

Now, if all of those wah improvements weren't enough, we'd love to point out that the BB535 also includes a built in boost effect, injecting your wah with the beloved MXR Micro Amp sound, lending +12dB of gain adjustable and engageable by non-intrusive side controls. This addition not only gives your wah some drive functionality but lets players balance their signal chain if they find volume is lost when engaging the wah effect. Lastly, a newer adjustment for ease of use capabilities, two LEDs have been added to the top of the pedal, right at the tip of your toe, to indicate which effect is on or off. So ,yes, you can engage the effects independently. This pedal runs on standard 9V center negative power supplies as well as being 9V battery operable.
