It’s with great excitement that we welcome directly from one master’s hands to ours this Fender Custom Shop ’60s Telecaster Custom Relic in Shell Pink built by Fender Master Builder Paul Waller. As a name, the Fender Custom Shop is a world-renowned mark of quality and artistry among electric guitars. A fraction of a fraction, this Custom Shop model holds the special distinction of being assembled by one of Fender’s most trusted luthiers. The vision of one great artist manifests in this Telecaster for fans of the Fender legacy everywhere.

This Masterbuilt Fender Custom Shop ’60s Telecaster Custom begins with a two-piece guitar and bass alder body, sorted for weight. Handling comfortably and acting as a great sonic springboard off which the rest of this guitar’s character can leap, the alder plays an important role. This selection of alder works not only as an excellent wood from which to shape a body, but as a canvas through which a classic Custom Shop finish can shine. A Shell Pink lacquer finish effectively wraps the single-cutaway body for a consistent coat. This lacquer is treated with a Fender Custom Shop Relic finish treatment that imparts some age and tasteful wear to the guitar, resulting in some paint checking, chips and scrapes, mainly alongside the body’s edges and across its back. The calm and charming pink shade is framed by white nitro body binding that accentuates the alder’s curvature and adds some extra geometric form to the guitar from different angles.

The two-piece alder of this Telecaster Custom matches with a plain grain maple neck shaped in a 60 Style Oval “C” profile. In hand, the Oval “C” profile fills the palm for a nice grip across the entire length, from high registers to low. This plain grain maple pairs with a flat lam 9mm AAA rosewood fingerboard adorned with twenty-one frets. The frets on this Tele come to form with 6105 Narrow Tall fret wire that hearkens to more modern Fender models and their articulate fretting experience. Modernity is compounded on this model by a 9.50” fingerboard radius that bears resemblance to the majority Fender guitars in circulation today while Micarta White facedots and sidedots punctuate the board along its length. This Custom Shop piece features a 60-style headscoop headstock lined with Vintage-Style tuning machines bearing the Fender logo. Following the length of the neck, its thickness measures .790” at its first fret and .930” at its twelfth.

Carefully equipped, this Masterbuilt Telecaster comes outfitted with a set of hand-wound single-coils made with special consideration. Two ’58 Tele single-coil pickups, hand-wound by Fender Master Pickup Winder Josefina Campos, assume the neck and bridge positions for great amplified tonality. The tonal experience brought to the table by Campos is enhanced by a number of fine hardware specifications to tie this Tele together. A bone nut measuring 1.650” lands at the headstock of this Telecaster while a 58-63 Tele bridge matches at the opposite end. Together, these components ground strings for stability and consistency for a fulfilling playing experience. This instrument is stamped with a Paul Waller signature chrome neck plate and travels in style with an included Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster/Telecaster Brown hardshell case.
