Gibson Custom Shop 1963 Dove Light Aged Acoustic Guitar, Dark Natural

In the spirit of Gibson's fine feathered friends, today's Gibson Custom Shop 1963 Dove Light Aged captures generations of acoustic excellence. This model, continuing in Gibson's long legacy of great acoustic guitars, embodies a marvelous Dove form for today's players.

The Gibson Custom model we have before us today hearkens to Gibson's second square-shoulder dreadnought acoustic model, first introduced in 1960. The Dove, lovingly adopted by the singer-songwriters of the day, inspired countless classic compositions with its refined design and flowery presentation. Today's 1963 Dove Light Aged comes together with reverence toward its 1960s originators.

The Gibson Custom Shop 1963 Dove Light Aged begins with a classic Gibson Dove square-shoulder body assembled from thermally aged Sitka spruce and a Cherry-finished flame maple back and sides. For a historically light and airy tonal profile, this Dove's Sitka spruce and flame maple summon a bright and chiming voice. The Sitka spruce is thermally aged to impart a more lived-in character usually reserved for older guitars alongside scalloped X-Bracing with hide glue construction.

From here, a mahogany neck joins in on the equation. The neck's Rounded profile, walnut stringer down the length of the neck, and headstock stringer all align for a comfortable feel in the palm and a geometric visual motif. A bound Indian rosewood fingerboard lays out across the neck with twenty standard frets and Mother of Pearl parallelogram inlays for a seamlessly playable feel on the fingers.

This Gibson Custom Shop model is fitted with ornate appointments and hardware to elevate the experience to the next level. First, multi-ply top and back binding wrap the curvature of the Dove's body. Second, a bone nut, saddle, and bridge pins ground strings stably. Finally, the model's Dove-styled pickguard features stamped vines and flowers alongside a Mother of Pearl inlay of the titular avian.

Finishing this all off, we have the element that puts the "Light Aged" in "1963 Dove Light Aged." Straight from the Gibson Custom Shop's Murphy Lab division, a Murphy Lab Light Aged finish treatment appears across the dreadnought that works to visually and tangibly age the guitar's lacquer finish for a refined and rich result.
