Our favorite day has arrived once again: the day we get to unveil another beautifully crafted Martin Custom Shop masterpiece. Featuring a custom “J” Jumbo body built from premium, hand-selected woods and adorned with elegant appointments that complement the natural beauty of the grain, this 28-style wonder looks, feels, and sounds every bit as exceptional. Its expansive, thunderous voice is the latest result of our ongoing collaboration with Martin as one of only a select few Custom Shop Expert dealers in the country. While it’s certainly difficult to say goodbye, we’re thrilled to offer this extraordinary instrument the opportunity to find a new home.

At the heart of this premium Martin Custom Shop build is an Adirondack spruce top, shaped into the imposing “J” Jumbo body and finished in clear gloss to showcase the wood’s natural character. The figured back and sides are crafted from Pacific Big Leaf flamed maple, a visually captivating tonewood known for its shifting hues and mesmerizing ripples. Inside the body, Adirondack spruce scalloped forward-shifted X-bracing adds tremendous projection to an already massive jumbo design. The result is a voice that is both balanced and booming, delivering a rich, resonant low end, a powerful midrange, and shimmering highs that remain articulate and expressive across virtually any playing style.

The body is further elevated by a collection of refined 28-style appointments. Around the soundhole, a rosette made from black and antique white maple fibers creates an understated yet striking frame. Beautiful black ebony binding outlines the body, while HD zig-zag purfling on the back is complemented by a spruce center strip and Spanish cedar ribbons. Together, these details create an aesthetic that feels every bit as luxurious as the remarkable sound produced by the instrument.

A dovetail joint connects the body to a two-piece flamed maple neck, highlighted by a dramatic center stripe that travels along the back of the neck and continues all the way to the tip of the headstock. The satin finish and Golden Era Modified Low Oval profile, paired with a High Performance taper, provide the familiar, comfortable feel Martin players have come to love across the full 25.4" scale length. Visually, the flamed maple echoes the captivating figuring found on the back and sides, carrying that visual continuity seamlessly up through the headstock. At the top, a black ebony fingerboard is decorated with immaculate select abalone diamond and square inlays, adding another sophisticated touch. With its 16" radius, the fingerboard offers a comfortable platform for everything from ringing open chords and fluid lead work to expressive fingerpicking.

Rounding out the build is Martin’s dependable Golden Era Modern Belly bridge, crafted from ebony and paired with a drop-in compensated bone saddle. Together, they provide excellent intonation and efficient string-vibration transfer for a stable, articulate, and exceptionally resonant response. A bone nut measuring 1.75" in width adds further support for precise intonation and playability, while Grover nickel tuners with vintage-style buttons provide smooth, reliable tuning stability—even through the longest playing sessions.

This Martin Custom Shop masterpiece arrives safely housed in a black 5-ply hardshell case, ready to take its place as the centerpiece of any serious instrument collection.
