Martin Custom Shop "J" Jumbo Body 28 Style Acoustic Guitar, Adirondack Spruce/Pacific Big Leaf Flamed Maple

Our favorite day has arrived once again: we get to introduce a new, beautifully crafted Martin Custom Shop build. Touting a custom “J” Jumbo body formed from premium, hand-picked woods and featuring ornamental details that perfectly complement the wood’s natural grain, this 28-style wonder resonates and projects as perfectly as it looks and feels. This expansive and thunderous design continues our close collaboration with Martin as one of only a few Custom Shop Expert dealers in the country. Though we’re sad to see it go, we’re more than happy to offer it a new, loving home.

To start this premium Martin Custom Shop build, an Adirondack spruce top forms the “J” Jumbo body shape, boasting a clear gloss finish to highlight the beauty of the natural wood. Forming the stunning figured back and sides is Pacific Big Leaf flamed maple—a light wood that mesmerizes with different hues and ripples to dazzle all who glance upon it. Within the body, Adirondack spruce is used to create the scalloped, forward-shifted X-bracing, enhancing the projection immensely on the already ginormous, jumbo-sized guitar. Together, all of these appointments deliver a sound that is balanced but booming, with a rich low end, robust midrange, and shimmering high end that resonates endlessly across any playing style.

More details adorning the body include a 28-style rosette crafted from black and antique white maple fibers, forming the rings around the soundhole. The binding features beautiful cuts of Guatemalan rosewood, while the HD zig-zag purfling on the back, accompanied by a spruce center strip and Spanish cedar ribbons, ties the acoustic story together into an aesthetic luxury that matches the supreme sound emanating from the instrument.

Connected to the body with a dovetail joint is a two-piece flamed maple neck. This satin-finished neck features a Golden Era Modified Low Oval profile with a High Performance taper—a classic shape utilized by Martin for an intuitive and comfortable experience across the entire 25.4" scale length. Visually, the flamed maple showcases a similar mesmerizing pattern as the back and sides and extends all the way up through the headstock. Topping the neck is a black ebony fingerboard, donning immaculate select abalone diamond and square inlays for another touch of elegance. The 16" radius fingerboard is inviting for playing resonating open chords, laying down leads, and even exploring fingerpicking styles.

To round out the fantastic build, Martin appointed their reliable Golden Era Modern Belly bridge—crafted from ebony—and a drop-in compensated bone saddle to provide excellent intonation and string-vibration transfer, resulting in a stable, articulate, and fantastically resonant guitar. A bone nut with a 1.75" width provides further intonation support, while Grover nickel tuners with vintage buttons supply pitch perfection that holds even through the longest sessions.
