Originally forged in the creative flame of collaboration between guitar maker Paul Reed Smith and musician John Mayer, the Silver Sky took on a life of its own with the guitar players around the world. Today's Sandglow Yellow Silver Sky takes a place among a very limited series of Silver Skies with colors taken from a certain fascination of Mayer: Land Rover Defenders. The PRS Silver Sky is a modern-day classic of electric guitars. Balancing the vintage inspirations of iconic double-cutaways and the cutting-edge modern innovations of today, the Silver Sky has received a number of limited series with Mayer's distinct artistic eye upon each. This Silver Sky features a color inspired by one of Mayer's most cared-for collections. Sandglow Yellow, a color taken from Mayer's vintage Land Rover Defender 4x4 collection, is wrapped around this classic double-cutaway's body and asymmetric headstock.

PRS sets off with this Silver Sky with a classic pick of flat top-carved alder. This double-cutaway shape features carefully contoured edges for a comfortable, modern feel under the arm. Resonant and bright, this alder body acts as a lively sonic engine off which the rest of the instrument runs. The guitar's bolt-on maple neck assumes a slim, comfortable 635 JM-R profile that differs subtly from the original JM neck with slight shoulder shaping to more easily fit the palm. A product of Smith's examinations of vintage necks and Mayer's endless trials onstage, this carefully modified profile offers easy playing at every position.

A lush rosewood fingerboard lands on this Defender-inspired model. Vintage-inspired 7.25" radius measurements offer a more rounded, retro feel on the fingertips with twenty-two PRS Medium Fret Wire frets. Effortlessly playable across a 25.5" scale length, this fingerboard features PRS Small Birds inlays flocking together. Birds of a feather, you know?

Audibly, this Silver Sky features three specially-designed 635JM single-coil pickups. A masterful balance of sparkle, snap, body, and clarity, these pickups sing with brightness and resonance to perform exceptionally with any style of music. All of these features are backed up by reliable PRS hardware specifications. A bone nut appears at the classically asymmetrically-oriented headstock with Vintage-Style Locking tuning machines. Toward the scale's opposite end, a PRS Steel Tremolo bridge offers expressive vibrato bends with sturdy intonation and tuning stability.

In commemoration of the series and collaboration with Land Rover, each of these Silver Skies features a customized neckplate featuring its serial number out of five hundred for each color. Each model travels with a PRS ATA molded hardshell case with a custom Defender badge. This Land Rover Defender limited series is made up of five hundred models for each color for two thousand total worldwide.
