Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Big Muff Pi 2 Fuzz Effect Pedal

Once a long-lost circuit and now a pedalboard staple, the Big Muff Pi 2 has quickly become a stand-out fuzz friend for guitarists of all genres. Now, as is tradition for Electro-Harmonix mainstays, the Pi 2 has cut itself a bigger slice with the Deluxe Big Muff Pi 2. Equipped with more tone shaping features including a dedicated mids suite, blend and gate functions, and a wicker mode, this version of the Pi-sequel is beefier and more powerful than ever.

Let's break down this distorting, sustaining EHX wonder. The Deluxe Big Muff Pi 2 features the same control scheme as previous iterations, lending the standard Volume, Tone, and Sustain parameters for classic fuzz shaping. In this Deluxe version, the Blend control determines the mix of the effect signal, ranging from unaffected to full-on fuzzing. The Gate parameter introduces a noise gate, where the threshold is adjusted by the amount the knob is turned, resulting in utility driven gating to creative fizzling of signal. A Wicker switch is installed to apply more high-end and presence to the effect, with three different modes being available: Full, Half, and Off.

The new Mids control allows for more fine tuning function of the Pi 2's tone. The Mids Level knob boosts or cuts the mid-frequencies, where the "noon" setting is applying no change, while to the left is cutting and to the right is boosting. The Mids Freq knob sweeps the frequency range from 310Hz to 5.0kHz, while the Mids Q switch adjusts the bandwidth of the EQ, where HIGH is sharper and narrower while LOW is broader and rounder. This Mids feature is bypassed with its designated footswitch which works for both momentary and latching functionality. Additionally, the expression input allows control of the Mids Freq parameter with an expression footswitch or CV control.
