First introduced to the world in 1960, the Hummingbird served as Gibson's one and only square-shoulder dreadnought – delivering a fuller, deeper voice than the standard dreadnoughts of the time. It wasn't long before the model made a made for itself, ending up on countless recordings and appearing with artists spanning many musical genres. Today, we are treated to a delightful reinterpretation with this Gibson Custom Shop Hummingbird Elegant Koa. Crafted by the artisans in Bozeman, MT, this Hummingbird delivers an elevated experience from headstock to endpin.

Crafted from the finest materials, this square-shoulder dreadnought is constructed from a AAA Sitka spruce top and koa back and sides. Koa is coveted for its looks and tonal properties that naturally shift over time – the more you play, the wood opens up and develops additional warmth. The body is double bound and sports a traditional rosette, Hummingbird pickguard, and a three-roped marquetry strip running down the center of the back. Amplifying its voice, a L.R. Baggs VTC under-saddle Element electronics system sits under the hood and can be accessed by the sound-hole mounted controls. Its sound offers a natural sound, ready for the studio or stage.

For its neck, a 24.75-inch scale length mahogany neck is carved to a round profile and affixed to the body in a traditional set-neck fashion. The neck is bound and topped with a 12-inch radius rosewood neck and is crowned with 20 standard frets. The split parallelogram fingerboard inlays and Gibson logo/Crown emblem on the headstock display are crafted from abalone. Strings are loaded in the belly up rosewood bridge, rest on the saddle/tusq nut, and are strung to pitch with the Grover Rotomatic tuning machines.

Finished in a gloss Honey Burst and packed in hardshell case for safe keeping, this Hummingbird Elegant Koa is an inspiring work of art, ready to inspire countless songs and memorable musical moments.
